Room Hire

Charities and other organisations increasingly recognise the value of the Institute's facilities and flexible letting policy. Individuals often take advantage of our unique premises for private dinner parties and other events.

Our own catering department is able to provide a tailor-made service to meet your needs.

In the Library Building,15 Tavern Street:

THE LIBRARY AND READING ROOM - This large and beautiful ground floor room is available out of normal Institute opening times. Maximum seating capacity for talks or readings: 80.

PAGES CAFÉ - another ground floor room leading from the Library and also available only out of normal Institute hours.

THE BIRKBECK ROOM - on the first floor, this room can accommodate up to 60 people seated. Dimensions: 6.3 metres x 10.5 metres. Hearing Loop fitted.

THE GIPPESWYK ROOM - is available for smaller groups of up to 16 people. Dimensions: 4.5 metres x 5.5 metres

In the Admiral's House, 13 Tower Street:

THE FITZGERALD ROOM - a comfortable lounge with casual seating, on the ground floor.

THE CORDER ROOM - ground floor meeting room for 12 - 16 people (with or without tables)

THE ORWELL ROOM - on the first floor, a meeting or teaching room for up to 16 people at tables or 24 without

THE PETER YOUNG ART CENTRE - informally shaped room with seating for up to 22 people at tables

CHAPTERS RESTAURANT - 40 seater restaurant which can be cleared for other functions. Ground floor.

Facilities & Equipment:

All Ground Floor Rooms have level access, suitable for wheelchairs, plus access to disabled WC.

Presentation equipment available includes Whiteboard/Flipcharts, OHP, Digital Projector, Screen
